2 Stars Disappointment
I was first in line thinking this was going to be a huge seller! Jokes on me. They had tons of them. I can swee why. I was hoping for way more new fun activities maybe throwing in some Pilates. All the same old stuff. yeah okay some new games and I will admit Cycling is fun as is the ‘fu’ dancing. Other than that a total snooze. Even CardioFit which was boring to me was better than this!
5 Stars Wii Plus is a winner!
Love it! Ever dreamed of flapping your arms and flying? You can with Wii Plus. You can bicycle around WuHu Island, have a snowball fight, or even be a circus juggler. There are target specific workouts to try out. You can customize your own workout or let the Wii board choose for you in five minute increments. Only got a minute to get weighed in? Wii Fit Plus can do that! New is the MET feature and Wii Piggy will keep track of calories burned too. For less than $20, this is a “must have” for Wii Fit owners. Wii motion plus attachment not needed for this program.
5 Stars Little Changes, Big Improvement
I am a Wii Fit fan but there was always frustrations with how fluidly the program could be used. To my satisfaction, these problems have been fixed.
I always found it annoying when changing users that you had to go all the way back to the Wii Fit Plaza, in Wii Fit Plus you now have a button to click called Switch. Clicking this will allow you to select a different user. When the other user does a workout all the fit cash goes to their player.
Calibrating was always a pain. Wii Fit Plus does not seem to have to re-calibrate the board as much as before.
Customised Routines
You can now create customised routines, albeit only using the yoga and muscle workouts. If it was only time based i could understand this option, however since it can be set using calories burned too, i feel that you should have been able to have custom routines using the balance and aerobic games too. This is probably the only downside to Wii Fit Plus.
Price
Price, OMG the price. What a bargain. Wii Fit Plus contains everything from Wii Fit and 15 new games and also new muscle and yoga exercises. I only paid $23.65AUD for mine (I bought game only). I was expecting $60 or more. If more games were priced like this, there would be more sales and less piracy.
Games
The new games are so much fun, I think i like them more than the originals. I enjoy all of them. In the original Wii Fit, i didnt think the Zen balance game was any fun at all and i wasnt a fan of the snowboard.
Wii Fit Plus has a few that i really love playing but i do enjoy all of them with no exceptions. The juggling balance game is lots of fun but also frustrating. I love the Snowball throwing game, i especially love hitting Mii’s on my system. I would says its my favourite overall, but then i do love the balance games.
There are more games that use the nunchuck than the original. The Rhythm Kungfu and Parade are along the lines of the Step games in the original and lots of fun.
Final Words
Highly recommended. At the price i got mine for I would have been made to not buy it. In the two days since i have done more than 2 hours.
4 Stars Improved, probably worth the $20, still not perfect
When the original Wii Fit was released, I found it to be enjoyable and good for light exercise, but I thought there were some obvious–and seemingly simple to add–features missing. Most notably, I wanted to be able to customize a workout without having to select exercises one at a time. My primary interest in Wii Fit Plus was therefore due to the customizable workouts.
As others have mentioned, there are 15 new games/exercises that are grouped under a new category called “Training Plus”. I have found them to be pretty good overall; some are fun, some are good exercise, some are both (I especially like the Obstacle Course and Island Cycling). There are three new Yoga exercises and three new Strength exercises; honestly I haven’t even looked at them since they were not a strong selling point for me.
There is a “locker room” available in which you can choose pre-programmed routines, which are generally three exercises of a 6-8 minute duration in all that are targeted towards a specific goal (Warm Up, Relaxation, Hips, Arms, etc.). These can be combined but not further customized.
You can create your own routine under “My Routine” within the locker room as well, and as that was my primary interest, I will elaborate. You can choose any combination of strength and yoga exercises; the total minutes will be calculated for you. Once you begin the routine, the Wii will automatically cycle you through your exercises one after another. This can reduce the total time spent dramatically; for example, suppose you want to follow the Push Up/Side Plank with the Jackknife. Before, you’d finish the first exercise, grab the remote and press A several times while getting your score, ranking, feedback, encouragement, etc., etc. Then you’d select the other exercise, get out of the floor and stand on the board for a few seconds, and then get back down in the floor. Now, you just wait in the floor while the second exercise loads. MUCH faster, and with enough exercises in a row you actually can feel like it’s a real workout. I would estimate that doing 30 minutes of activity now takes 5-10 minutes less of actual elapsed time.
However, there are still some obvious flaws with the new implementation. First, you can only select strength and yoga exercises; no balance games, no aerobics, none of the 15 new Training Plus modules. Second, you can only have one exercise routine per Mii. If you want an upper body workout and a lower body workout separately, you’re out of luck. Finally, you are defaulted to the minimum number of reps, and you can’t change that. If you select Jackknife, you’re doing 10. Ditto for lunges. Push Ups? You’ll do 6. I can’t imagine that it would have taken much effort to allow that extra level of customization.
I like the Wii Fit Plus overall, and I think it was worthwhile. But, the fifth star would’ve been so easy to earn from me, and it came up short.
5 Stars This upgrade is well worth it!
If you are already a Wii Fit user, this upgrade (DVD only) is well worth the money. For less than $20, you maintain all the original Wii Fit options, plus a lot of new ones. This upgrade brings in your current profile and scores, keeps track of calories burned, adds 15 more games – some are really good for me, others I’m not too interested in. You can customize your workout; however, it only includes Yoga and Strength – that was a bit disappointing, but not worth downgrading this rating. It does not take that long to navigate to what you want. They changed up some of the original activities – for example, the longest Island lap is now a bit shorter, which is nice since there is now a bigger difference between it and the 10 minute free run. The long Island lap is now about 7 minutes, which is a nice in-betweener for me! They also changed up the scenery which was a nice touch.
Overall, if you have become complacent with the Wii Fit, this is a nice change and will keep your interest for a while longer.
