2 Stars One of the better 1st person games on the Wii
That pretty much says it all. Of course notice my praise is followed by – “on the Wii.”
Anyway there’s Metroid Prime and there’s Resident Evil 4 in the two spots in no particular order. And Conduit (arguably) comes next.
I probably had more fun with Red Steel, but that was at launch time nearly 3 years ago when the Wii was new and fresh and I was more forgiving of a game’s faults.
Certainly Red Steel had a more interesting design and/or was easier to wrap your head around. But it had more tech problems too. And if I went back now I might cringe and vomit.
Conduit’s aiming controls are better, but next time just give the player your best 3 aiming configs in addition to the configuration encyclopedia you put into the game. MP3 did this and it was enough for 95% of players. Surely Conduit can also make this simple addition.
Conduit is a straightforward fps game. Move around, shoot guys. Find door openings. I found it disappointing sloppy and disorienting. Frame rate is quite often suspect and the overall look gives a person headaches especially with the various effects in the game. You’ll also find yourself quite often bumping into the door frames as you go through doors. They seem to too narrow.
The multiplayer is fun. It’s always fun to shoot buds online. And if you notice I said you could arguably put this game behind RE4 and Metroid Prime as the top first person games on the Wii. Well that would this the top first person online game since the other two don’t have mp let alone online mp.
But multi-player suffers from frame rate drops and bugs like your screen turning black. I’ve played online 5 times or so and I haven’t seen these problems at least 3 times.
Anyway you can get much better fps games on your computer as long as your computer is no more than 3 or 4 years old. And these games would cost you next to nothing since are now $10 titles.
But on the Wii you don’t have much choice. And so this game is one of the better picks. (let’s forget Gamecube games for a second.)
Overall though Conduit isn’t by no means a AAA game. Metroid Prime and RE4 are AAA games. Extremely well-polished and well thought out.
AFter that the quality of the first person titles on the Wii drops off dramatically. Conduit is arguably the leader of this 2nd pack.
2 Stars An ok FPS. Not as good as COD WAW Wii.
+ Amazing fully customizable controls allowing you to adjust cursor sensitivity.
+ good art technology – shaders have normal maps and specular maps (shiny looking stuff)
+ good SFX – glows, blooms, particles
- horrible Art Direction – the game looks like student work. Everything looks very generic especially the environments.
- Level design is dated – most levels play like a typical corridor shooter.
- Multiplayer level design is very basic as well. Only one or two maps are on par with modern day FPS games.
- Online is very laggy, buggy and connection can take upwards of 15 mins.
- Singleplayer is very linear. Story is super generic.
- Multiplayer class system has no affect on gameplay – seems arbitrary and thrown in at the last second.
If you want an FPS that has deep gameplay, great level design, well designed class system, achievments/unlockables that affect gameplay, really good connectivity online then buy COD WAW Wii. Or wait for COD MW Wii this Nov. 11th.
2 Stars Conduit Can’t
I was completely unimpressed with Conduit. There needed to be more explanation of the back story of the game and more action during the game play. I found the response on the Wii to be sluggish and the control functions weren’t easy to master. Overall, it just felt like a lot of noise and lights without much of a point. I prefer RPGs in which you’re given a stated purpose as your “mission” during the game. With Conduit, it’s just “kill the aliens” without a clear ultimate goal.
5 Stars The conduit
This game is the best fps out for wii.The graphics are the best the wii has seen ever. The single player is good. But what you will be playing more is the online. The online is the best. The weapons in the game are sweet. If you have a wii you should get this game.I give the game a 5/5
5 Stars The Conduit is a great FPS for the Wii!!
The Conduit brings 1st class FPS action to the Wii. The “T” rating is a positive move which allowed me to purchase this game and enjoy it with my 2 sons. There’s great action but without the excessive gore. The gameplay is a natural fit for the Wii and the ability to customize the controls is excellent. The variety of online game options is a big hit with the kids. Gamers who complain about the lack of FPS titles for the Wii should support this title to encourage developers to create similar games. High Voltage thanks for producing a great game exclusively for the Wii!
