The Story
Varrigan City has fallen under the control of a terrorist group known as the Organizers, and they have a rather twisted sense of fun. Under the Organizers’ rule, all citizens are forced to participate in a game called “Death Watch,” in which there’s only one rule: Kill or be killed. Into the game steps Jack, a mysterious participant practiced at setting traps, engaging in hand-to-hand combat and other useful skills. But will Jack be able to survive Death Watch and ultimately beat the terrorists at their own brutal game?

Key Game Features:

  • Play as Jack, a mysterious participant in the Organizers’ Death Watch game whose ultimate goal is to save the terrorized city
  • Explore six different areas of Varrigan City and interact with the environment, using anything in the environment, from sign posts to passing trains, to attack your enemies
  • Utilize your Wii Remote and Nunchuk to battle hand-to-hand with daggers, bats, chainsaws and other weapons while delivering brutal finishing moves
  • Watch this insane and innovative world come to life before you in a unique black-and-white graphic novel artwork style
  • Earn points in the Death Watch game for your bloodiest, most creative kills — the more points you earn, the better your chances of staying alive to save the city
  • Improve your skills and punish your opponents in a series of ultraviolent multiplayer mini games available in each level
  • Listen to humorous commentary from sports announcers who offer play-by-play on the spectacular mayhem

5 Stars Great game
Very bloody, very entertaining game. Recommended for adult Wii players, should have sold better than it did.

4 Stars great game
I love it. I think the B&W color scheme is terrific and the kill combos are fun. It can get repetative, but I haven’t played a brawler that doesn’t. The point is whether or not the controls are good and I think Platnum nailed them. A minor gripe is that I’m left handed, so the directions on the screen for finish moves were a little off for me. I still moved the same direction, but the remote was pictured on the right side of the screen and vice vers with the nunchuck. My biggest complaint is not having online components. I hope there is a Madword II and that split screen and online elements can be provided. This is a unique game and these type of exclusives are why I’ll never regret getting a Wii.

5 Stars This game is the (F)-bomb!!
For anyone who is sick of playing with fluffy bunnies or cooking games on their Wii…here’s the answer to your prayers! This game is wonderfully cathartic in it’s ultraviolent, uses worse language than a 12-year-old reform school inmate, and is FUNNY in its background patter and visual effects.

The basic idea here is to run around and kill people as graphically as possible. The more different ways that you can inflict pain on each guy before he dies, the more point you get. It’s that simple.

Example: Why just throw a guy into an exposed ventilation fan when you can first wrap a tire around him, head butt him, impale him with a traffic sign, bang him a few times up against a spiked wall, and THEN throw him into the fan to be turned into a red mist?

You start the game with a retractable chainsaw as a primary weapon, but high scores unlock other destructive goodies like a spiked bat and knives. Timed levels keep you on your toes. Bonus rounds and good boss fights keep this one fun.

WARNING: This is absolutely NOT for children. There is no gender-or-racial taboo that these guys don’t go out of their ways to piss someone of about! But, you’ll be laughing so hard you won’t notice.

4 Stars Like a Frank Miller – Quentin Tarantino Lovechild
With all the visual flair of Sin City and the stylish flourish of Kill Bill, Madworld is a sight to be seen and a surprise to be played.

The game takes place in a not-so-distant future where a reality TV “gameshow” that pits contestants against each other in a very literal fight for their lives has taken the world by storm. You take the roll of Jack, a hard-hitting and fast-talking vet who’s no stranger to danger, on his quest to rank number one in the world.

If you’ve played No More Heroes, the focus of the game will seem very familiar to you: Plow through swarms of enemies until you fight a ranked match against an established contender. But Madworld shakes things up by throwing in a pair of comentators (who make hilarious, shocking comments throughout) and a points system that gives the game a very fun and frantic arcade feel. The more elaborate your kills, the more points you get. Reaching certain score benchmarks will not only earn you new weapons and contraptions to mutilate your foes, but also humorous mini-game murder sprees such as “The Money Shot” in which Jack must shake up a carbonated beverage, jam it into his enemies’ heads and send them flying at a giant bilboard of a woman whose naughty bits are marked with spiked bullseyes. This game is all about mindless violence and both the gameplay and story reflect that.

As clever as the game can be at times, the camera and controls occasionally fall short. The lock-on system almost feels like a hastily added after-thought and simple tasks like picking up items or grabbing enemies can be clunky. The action can become monotonous if you don’t utilize your surroundings, as the basic tools for taking lives are static throughout the game. Boss battles are stylish and fun and only a few end without the over-the-top action (initiated with wiimote motions) that makes others an absolute blast.

There’s little-to-no replay value in Mad Word save for only a couple of unlockable weapons and a Hard mode, but after a while, an exclamation mark will appear over completed missions alerting you to new challenges. Think of them as the Xbox or PS3 achievements, sans the gamer points.

In conclusion, MadWorld doesn’t brake any molds or define any genres, but the gorgeous graphics and ridiculous arcade-style kill mechanics make this game the perfect play for an empty Friday.

Just mind who’s around when you load it up. There are enough F-bombs in there to level a city.

5 Stars Mad World neccesitates new category: Wii – Violent Comedy
This game isn’t perfect, but it is easily a top ten Wii game in terms of fun to play. DeBlob (in a very different, much lighter, family friendly genre) is similarly groundbreaking, hard to define, and fun to play. Calling it hard core is kind of misleading, because neither the difficulty nor the length make for an intense experience, combined with the humor making a much lighter experience than what i at least think of when I think hard core. There is a serious meta story above the Deathwatch games kill for points on television thing also. For some reason you start out fighting people, there is a riding motorcycle (still wielding chainsaw, oc) stage or two, then Zombies that regenerate (awesome) then aliens and that’s as far as I’ve gotten so far. only 15 stages, so @ 50$ it would be a rip off – I bought it for $12 on here, an absolute steal for what has now instantly become a favorite. It probably isn’t for everyone (horrified at the thought of a really young kid playing this or even seeing it played)but if you are an adult with a sense of humor, there isn’t really much to be offended by, and if you are the type to be easily offended, then why would you pick this up at all, the dude has a chainsaw for an arm, didja think he was going to plant flowers with it? The style is great, the announcers when not repeating the same thing for the 12th time are hilarious (each new level or board has new comments, but they repeat within each stage, with some that repeat throughout) bottom line is fun and this game definitely makes the cut – pun intended.
